Merry Christmas

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Ours was quieter than originally planned. We had a nice Christmas morning, opened gifts and ate too much. Later in the day we ended up getting together with friends who were also having a quiet Christmas, and pooled our Christmas dinners for a potluck that included tongue, duck confit and cabbage rolls.

It’s been nice to have some time to get things done around the house and front-load the new year especially with school application forms due soon. The kids were working on their essays this morning after we got home from swim practice. One wants to be a surgeon and the other wants to be a famous artist and paint on big canvases. I don’t have any pictures of the future surgeon in-practice (thankfully!), but here are a few of art-girl.

And of course just before Christmas it was Zak’s birthday. He told us that he didn’t want a party this year, but did want to go out and see a movie and go bowling. A few days before his birthday he said that he still wanted to do that, but wondered if he could invite two friends. Everyone had a great time, and one of the kids deemed the party “epic.” Afterwards, Zak still refused to call it a partly; it was just “a few dudes and a girl hanging out.”

Weekend walk

Haven’t posted in a while… life has been busy. Here are just a few from a walk we took this weekend on an abandoned stretch of highway. I had seen pictures taken here last year and ever since have been wanting to go check it out. Thanks to the family for humoring me

Weekend Update

Another busy week at Casa C-S. We had a low-key birthday dinner for Zoe on Monday (Zak was away at camp), and will have a party with her friends next weekend.

Zak had a good week at camp, but came home a little tired

We’re trying to get caught up around the house this weekend before another busy week begins.

Back to School

Well, we’ve made it through the first week of school.

It will take a while to get back into the regular routine, but so far so good. The kids like their classes, and the new swim team schedule should make things a bit easier. Earlier, but easier.

The weather has been great for the last few weeks—surprisingly hot, and I’m still holding out hope for the tomato plants. Hope everyone has a good week.

Just a few more from the weekend… Zoe braided her hair so that it would get wavy; so of course I had to take a few pictures.

Zak and I made our customary trip to the farmer’s market and brought back fruit and croissants. This was the brunch set-up in-progress (there were also sous vide eggs), but I was afraid if I waited any longer to take the picture the food would be gone!

And finally, for the non Facebook-using side of the family who haven’t seen this, it’s our tomato harvest. The plants are almost 6 feet tall, and covered with green tomatoes but the weather just hasn’t been warm enough to have them ripen. This one looked (and tasted) great though.

It’s Already August

I can’t believe how fast the summer is going. We keep waiting for more than a few days of sun, but it’s just not happening this year. The tomato plants have a lot of little green tomatoes, but we’re getting worried that it will be Fall before they ripen (if they do). We had a nice weekend with my parents, except of course for Nana’s chair leap.

While Nana was in the ER, the kids and I took some pictures in the yard.

My favorite weekend picture is the boys watching football. Guess which one *didn’t* have a glass of Scotch after dinner

Into the woods

Just a quick post and a few recent pictures from the weekend.

First, Zoe’s new ‘dew. It took forever to braid and turned out a little crazy, but she was happy with it.

We took a short hike this weekend; didn’t get very far, but it was fun to get out into the woods even for just a little while. Of course I had to take a few pictures.
